What is the Grand Cherokee 4xe?

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a plug-in hybrid SUV with a 14-kWh battery system allowing for 26 miles of pure electric driving range. You can plug the vehicle into a 240-volt charger and fully charge the battery in 2.5 hours.

What’s the difference between a standard Grand Cherokee and the 4xe?

The standard Jeep Grand Cherokee features a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, producing 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 4xe is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a pair of batteries.

How many trim levels are there?

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in six trim levels: Base, 30th Anniversary, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

How good is the technology?

The Grand Cherokee 4xe offers drivers and passengers a bright and crisp 10.1-inch touchscreen display with standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. A 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, and a 10-inch head-up display is optional. There is also a 10.3-inch display on the dashboard in front of the front passenger.

Base and Trailhawk models get an Alpine audio system, while top-of-the-line Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve models receive a 19-speaker McIntosh system.

How much does the Grand Cherokee 4xe cost?

  • Base: $62,285

  • Anniversary: $65,280

  • Trailhawk: $67,980

  • Overland: $75,275

  • Summit: $76,465

  • Summit Reserve: $80,945

How much power does the 4xe have?

The plug-in Grand Cherokee has two electric motors and a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, producing 270 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque. The first electric motor also doubles as a generator. It adds 44 horsepower and 39 lb-ft of torque, while the second motor, mounted to the transmission, brings 134 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. When you combine all those numbers, the Grand Cherokee 4xe puts out 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

What kind of driving range and fuel economy will the 4xe get?

When driving in electric-only mode, the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid will be able to drive a total of 26 miles, and according to the EPA, the 4xe gets 56 mpge. When driving with the gas engine only, drivers will get a combined 23 mpg between city and highway driving, which is really quite good. With a full tank of gas and a completely charged battery drivers will have 470 miles of range.

Jeep says the Grand Cherokee 4xe tackled the 22-mile Rubicon Trail without ever using the gas motor. Jeep torture tests all of its vehicles on the Rubicon Trail to prove their off-road worthiness before they are sold to the public.

The outgoing Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7-liter Hemi, with 390 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, achieved a combined 17 mpg in city and highway driving.

Okay, but can the Grand Cherokee 4xe tow?

The 4xe absolutely can tow, and tow well it does. With a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 lbs, the Grand Cherokee 4xe doesn’t force you to sacrifice anything to increase your fuel economy over other SUVs with a V8.
