The 2024 GMC Acadia’s Infotainment Screen Is So Good All Cars Should Copy It
Jul 11, 2024 - 5 minute read
Modern infotainment systems can be both brilliant and frustrating. They are getting more and more impressive with all of the incredible features and the high quality of the displays. Sometimes, new features make it more difficult for new customers to learn the ins and outs of the latest systems and be fluent enough to operate them while driving. It can get confusing and potentially dangerous. However, GMC seems to have gotten it right with the all-new 2024 Acadia, according to The Autopian, an automotive news and review website.
Better Than The Rest
Mercedes Streeter, the author, highlights why the infotainment system in the new GMC is not only good but convenient without making users feel inadequate: “So here’s where I think GMC can take a win. The 2024 GMC Acadia has a hefty 15-inch screen as its interior centerpiece. Like other automakers, this screen has a bunch of functions behind pages and menus. However, GMC has thought about the end user here. The first thing I liked about the GMC Acadia’s infotainment display was the fact that navigation didn’t take an IT degree. There’s a clear home button at the top left of the screen and going through the system’s pages felt like using a big tablet. It’s not the easiest system I’ve ever used, but you aren’t going to have steam coming from between your ears trying to figure out your Acadia’s average fuel economy. Google is also built-in, so Maps is right there and you can ask Google Assistant questions. But you still get full-screen Apple CarPlay if you’re an iPhone user and Android Auto connectivity with your phone.”
Engine and Towing
For 2024, GMC has made what was already great even better in the new Acadia, giving it three trim levels: the base Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The Elevation and Denali trims are standard with front-wheel drive but can be optioned with all-wheel drive, while the AT4 is AWD-only. Each model gets a powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque while paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and has the ability to tow up to 5,000 lbs. when properly equipped.
What You Need Where You Need It
Sometimes, an issue with modern systems is how users are forced to tap a bunch of different buttons and parts of the screen to get exactly what they are looking for. GMC has thought of this with the new 15-inch touchscreen on the Acadia and given buyers a quick tap taskbar. The Autopian said, “I also like how the display has a constant lower taskbar. It doesn’t matter if you have a giant map up or are trying to view the crossover’s up to nine cameras, there’s a taskbar right there with common functions ready for you to tap.”
Better Than The Competition
Every automaker is trying to do what they think is best for consumers. However, it’s not always peaches and cream. GMC is seeing what other manufacturers are doing, such as Ford, and instead of copying, GMC is making their product better and more usable: “The 2024 GMC Acadia, like the GMC Sierra EV and the Ford F-150 Lightning, has a giant screen. However, there’s a large volume knob down at the bottom. There’s no tapping the screen or anything like that. Just twist the large knob to bring on the tunes. However, unlike the F-150 Lightning, GMC gives its Sierra EV and GMC Acadia a button bank for common functions. Defroster, fan speed, and temperature options are just a flick away. But wait, there’s more! Next to the driver is another button bank allowing you to change drive mode and AWD settings on the fly. These are real, tactile switches, too, yet they don’t spoil the nice interior. If anything, I love them because it sort of feels like being in a cockpit.”
Safety Tech For Days
Thanks to GMC Pro Safety, the Acadia is incredibly safe for all occupants, featuring Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian and Bicycle Braking, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, HD Rear Vision Camera, Rear Park Assist, Safety Alert Seat, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Buckle to Drive, Rear Seat Reminder, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Pedestrian Detection, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Speed Limit Assist, Side Bicyclist Alert, Enhanced Lane Keep Assist, Reverse Auto Braking, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Base Price and Cargo Capacity
With a base MSRP of $43,995, the 2024 Acadia is one of the absolute best SUVs on the market for a small family, a larger family, or even someone with a bunch of animals. There is 23 cu.ft. of space behind the third-row seats, and folding the third row down will give buyers 57.3 cu.ft. If you fold both the second and third rows, that opens the vehicle up to have 97.5 cu.ft. of total cargo capacity.
